1880's Black Silk Taffeta Bustle Skirt with Micropleated Hem Ruffle
An 1880's black silk skirt used for mourning with micro pleating at the hem, and pleats at the back of the waistband.
The condition is very good, the silk is heavier weight, and is not experiencing shattering. The seams are whipstitched in black thread, and slightly uneven, likely due to alterations. The ruffled pleating looks machine sewn and pressed, due to the quantity and consistency of work. The skirt is unlined, except for the ruffle, which is interfaced for structure.
The skirt hooks closed at the centre back, and shows signs of hooks being moved to different locations for fit alteration. It is shown on a modern size 10 mannequin, but not recommended for wearing.
